ETE BELÉM (EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT) SANEPAR | CURITIBA (PR)

Theo Elevação Construction was responsible for the expansion work of the BELÉM Sewage Treatment Station, from SANEPAR, located in Curitiba (PR).

ABOUT THE WORK

The work increased the treatment capacity of the Station by 70%, from 1,500 l/s to 2,520 l/s and meets the growing demand in the Belém, Iguaçu and Pequeno river basins by the year 2033.

This is currently the largest Sewage Treatment Station in the State of Paraná.

INVESTMENT AND SOCIAL IMPACT

The ETE BELÉM project had a total investment of R$ 60 million.

With the expansion, the sewage treatment plant treats the sewage of around 800 thousand residents of Curitiba and the Metropolitan Region.

TECHNOLOGIES

Faster installation:

The four primary decanters were made with bolted stainless steel sheets, each with 38 meters in diameter and 4,800 m3 of storage capacity.

This material replaces reinforced concrete, allowing for faster installation and less maintenance throughout its useful life.

Increase in energy efficiency in the treatment process:

Due to the removal of a significant part of the organic load present in the sewage for treatment through primary decantation, generating a sludge with greater potential for energy use.

In addition, the removal of a large amount of organic load in this first stage of sewage treatment means that the next stage, the aeration stage, consumes less electricity. Each day, ETE Belém produces around 840 m3) of sludge that are sent for anaerobic treatment and, consequently, the generation of biogas, which is converted into electricity and heat instead of being sent directly to a sanitary landfill.
